3/12/04 - Dave's trip to South Jersey RV

With Spring in the air, it is time to get the brakes working on our Excella 500.
The folks at Colonial RV in NJ (official Airstream dealer) were not especially interested in working on our vintage 1978 Airstream.
So I hit the net and found the folks at South Jersey RV.
They were an Airstream dealer up til the last resession of the early 90's.  Is this resession over yet?  I can't tell.

Ron (center) at SJRV has been keeping his crew busy over the years restoring old Airstreams.  The 1948 or '49 beauty behind them has an interesting story.

A chap in England found this '48 or '49 on the internet.  It was located in northern NJ.  He then found Ron the same way I did (google), and made arrangements from England to have the trailer brought down to SJRV for Ron to restore.  This is the restoration of all restorations.  The chap in England is having a new chassis made there and having it shipped to Baltimore.

Above is the old chassis.  In addition, the chap has instructed Ron to raise the roof on the '48.

The gap shown on the side in the above photo is the amount the roof has been raised.  Once the new chassis arrives from England, Ron will fix it to the body - finish it off and load the Airstream on a ship and send it over to England.  Rough estimate of the restoration so far -- $18,000.

Ron has three restorations going on at once.  Below is a Bambi - 1964?, being gutted and polished.
